Serving to embrace the floral heavens of British pop, all acclaimed Piccadilly Sunshine series albums are dedicated to "British Sunshine Pop". Celebrating the obscured artifacts of illustrious noise that emerged from the Great British psychedelic era and beyond, it is the essential guide to the quintessential sound of candy-colored pop from a bygone age. This is pop music laced with a tinge of psychedelia from the very outer edges of the British psychedelia period. There's nothing even overtly "heavy" here, just that whimsical sound that seemed to emanate from Britain during this period ('65-'71), and went mostly unheard by music fans of the time. You'll occasionally come across musician's names you'll recognize, but for the most part, these groups toiled in relative obscurity. But that somehow makes their music that much more interesting for people like me who want to hear the stuff that's off the beaten path. The sound is uniformly good to great. The Piccadilly Sunshine series has 20 songs per CD, most of the performers are highly obscure, so you get 400 tracks here for your listening pleasure. (Amazon)
