Amorphous Androgynous -The Cartel Vol. 1&2 [2013] (2 x CD's)

Amorphous Androgynous -The Cartel Vol. 1&2 [2013] (2 x CD's)

Following on from their legendary and award winning a Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble (Exploding in Your Mind) DJ series, the Amorphous Androgynous have started a parallel series called Monstrous Bubble Soundtracks which aims to explore groovy sub genres of the MPB concept, but rather than DJ/compile, they write and produce all the material themselves in a classic soundtrack vein. The first one is the Cartel, a study of psychsploitation (where Psychedelia meets Blaxploitation) and traces the lineage from Lalo Schifrin, Quincy Jones, Curtis Mayfield, John Barry and Ennio Morricone through to Oceans 12. Aided and abetted by a stellar cast including Noel Gallagher himself on bass and guitar plus the Amorphous Androgynous themselves (both as producers and band) adding all manner of sonic delights centered round a core collective of Hammond/drums/violin/harp/flute/guitar/bass/brass and vibraphone.

Put simply this psychedelic mashed up mix of cosmic rock funk jazz ambient and mood music is the cream of Amorphous Androgynous continued foray into out their sounds. More organic and natural then electronic overall but that's been the path for the last decade or so- this is also less 60's influenced ten previous works relying on the sounds of the early 70s for the inspiration. More George Clinton than Donovan this time round.  Amazing production playing and vibes make this a no brainer- for fans of Acid Mothers Temple, Bitches Brew era Miles or long-lost gritty crime soundtracks from the 70's... mixed through a kaleidoscope of effects as only the Future Sound of London boys can do.
