VA - Dear Prudence (A Butterboy Compilation) (2 x CD's)

VA - Dear Prudence (A Butterboy Compilation) (2 x CD's)

"Dear Prudence" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album The Beatles (also known as "the White Album"). The song was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. Written in Rishikesh during the group's trip to India in early 1968, it was inspired by actress Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence Farrow, who became obsessive about meditating while practising with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Her designated partners on the meditation course, Lennon and George Harrison, attempted to coax Farrow out of her seclusion, which led to Lennon writing the song.

Lennon wrote "Dear Prudence" using a finger-picking guitar technique that he learned from singer-songwriter Donovan. Its lyrics are simple and innocent and celebrate the beauty of nature. The Beatles recorded the song at Trident Studios in late August 1968 as a three-piece after Ringo Starr temporarily left the group out of protest at McCartney's criticism of his drumming on "Back in the U.S.S.R." and the tensions that typified the sessions for the White Album. The final recording also features contributions from Mal Evans, Jackie Lomax and John McCartney. A demo for the song, recorded at George Harrison's Kinfauns home before the album's sessions, was later released on the 2018 Super Deluxe edition of the White Album. "Dear Prudence" has received praise from music critics, with many praising its lyrics and the band's performance. Lennon later selected it as one of his favourite songs by the Beatles. (Wikipedia)

The song has been covered by many artists, some of which appear here. Enjoy the 40 versions on these two CD's.

  1. Ah, Butterboy! So glad to see you back. 2021 is already better than 2020.

    1. Thanks Jimbo.
Lets see what I can deliver in 2021 and beyond. Happy hunting.

  2. What a nifty theme! The new reissue series from Belgian synth pop band Telex ("Moskow Diskow") on Mute includes a previously unreleased "Dear Prudence," too:

    1. Hi DJ El Toro.

    2. All the Ultra Lounge links are down except for "Vegas baby" if you ever did re-up them it would be greatly appreciated, but I don't want to seem ungrateful for what is available. thanks!!

    3. Hi Bil,

      VA - Ultra-Lounge BONUS ALL

    4. I cannot thank you enough !! I used to have most of this collection but due to circumstances all I have now is the Christmas cocktails and Wild Cool and Swinging. I used to spend many hours making my own mixes from this collection. 'been listening to "Vegas baby" non-stop (that was one I did not have).Youhave reallymade my day and more!!!

    5. This Ultra-Lounge series and post was/is superbly outstanding. Back in the record store days these issues were sporadic, difficult to locate and never in one place depending on the shop. Were they filed under Easy-Listening, Instrumental, 50s, various artist, pop, jazz, or miscellaneous? That's if they even had them! First time seeing them mostly together. This series was well-done, hugely enjoyable!
BB.. Please do not forget the associated Christmas Cocktail CD's you had planned to post end of last year.. that was before your 4 month rest period. Don't wait until next season on my account though.

    6. No sure if I posted these previously, but here they are again, Just to be sure.

I am almost certain you never got a chance to post those..
You're last and only mention was in the Ultra-Lounge post.

As those interested may not see it here, I hope you don't
mind I just put links in original post for others to find.

    8. That good to hear, mrRadio.
      Have a great day.

    9. So right Mr Radio ! I used to look forward to payday & make my rounds to the shops and pray they would have one that I didn't already have. I was always an album guy and these were probably the first CDs I really really got into. Always looked forward to the little booklet, and most of them had hidden bonus tracks. You're the best Butterboy !
