BREAD

Bread - Retrospective [1996] (2 x CD's)

A great collection showcasing this hugely talented band. David Gates penned the timeless classic hits and rightly the accolades go to him but the sadly underrated James Griffin (David Gates wrote ballads, while James Griffin and Robb Royer (who wrote as a team) wrote generally more up-tempo material and brought a counterbalance to their songs by providing the edgier rockin' tracks like "Let Your Love Go" and "Down On My Knees" that so complimented Gates ballads, and let us not forget, Mike Botts and the gifted Larry Knetchel all made such timeless songs.

Containing a very generous 50 tracks, this extremely comprehensive compilation from 1996 stands as the must-have overview of Bread's best hits and select better songs, as well as David Gates's array of solo hits. This set is a total joy for a big fan like me to hear! For the Bread enthusiasts, this Retrospective compilation is the one anthology to have. The production quality is superb. This is one of those collections where you just have to say, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" Every Bread or David Gates song your heart could conceivably desire is on here. Everything sounds Crystal Clear, Beautiful, Brilliant and Warm. Bread are the quintessential soft rock band. Most impressive.

  2. This looks great, Butter. I just put together a Bread compilation for a friend of mine - and this one far exceeds my determined effort. Thank for the fine upgrade, sir - cheers! (PS: I really like Gates's voice and compositions, but I'm especially glad to see Griffin get some deserving spotlight of his own here.)

    1. Hi Aging Child,
Sometime people think the band is only as good the hit songwriter but they should remember that they sound great because of the other members too. Together, they are bigger than the sum of their parts. While some lights shines brighter than others, the universe is made up of many less bright lights that are required to exist.... I think I will go and have a drink now.

      Cheers.
