Brian Auger - Get Auger-Nized! The Anthology [2005] (2 x CD's)

This double-disc set is a fairly solid career retrospective representing Brian Auger's work with the Trinity, Julie Driscoll, and his own longstanding, ever-evolving Oblivion Express. Brian Auger is one of Britain's most enduring figures in both jazz and R&B. The collection is divided up by the major divisions in Auger's tenure. The first compiles the mod-R&B years with covers of "Green Onions" and the steaming "Fool Killer," along with later work with Driscoll such as their fine covers of "This Wheel's on Fire" and "Season of the Witch." Disc two compiles all the electric jazz hits from "Freedom Jazz Dance" and "Happiness Is Just Around the Bend" to "I Want to Take You Higher" and the Oblivion Express' fine read of Herbie Hancock's "Maiden Voyage." It's true that there are other anthologies and most of them collect the same material, but for the bread, this one is a fine overview. (AllMusic Review by Thom Jurek)

Fantastic music remastered from the original tapes. What a sound and "Save Me" sung by Julie Driscoll in full length.

  1. Brian Auger is one of those organists I can immediately recognise by his individual style and that also says something about his above-average quality, thank you very much!

  2. Thanks for this, I well remember this group in the late 1960s, especially the time Julie was in the band, they were very big for a while.

  3. Good Day BB..
I am compelled to tell you something about this posting. For me.. this Brian Auger is an instance of what I believe to be your wonderful motivations for this blog working their PERFECT MAGIC. I had been aware of the name, but not music, of Brian Auger, and especially his teaming with Julie Driscoll, since back in the day from seeing the records in the bins and occasional mention by DJ's on the early vestiges of FM radio in my area here in the US. However, I never had the opportunity to actually hear his music and I fear even if I had my AM radio-trained brain of that time would have likely not noticed. Today, knowing my affinity for organ-based music, I read the info blurb accompanying this post and see your hearty endorsement in the comments. That caused me to give a listen.. and what a listen! Soooo enjoyable! I have been missing a lot from Mr Auger and company. Any more from this artist would be openly welcomed here. Another WOW for me and I once again have you to thank for this joyful experience and discovery! So cool.

    1. Hi mrRadio.
One of the joys I have listening to music is when I am blown away by and artist i did not know. There are many more unknowns out there that I haven't listened to and I seek those moments.
The other joy I have is when I have passed on new material someone that they have enjoyed enough for them to comment. Music discovery lifts the spirit and lets you see new opportunities. I will look at a Brian Auger Lucky Dip for the future.

Stay safe and enjoy all you do.
      Cheers.
