MESSAGE - MY COMPILATION! INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

MY COMPILATION!

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

Once again, I have been planning ways for readers to participate in the blog. In the past I asked you to send in your Best Songwriters and your Desert Island Songs. These were a great success and many of you participated resulting in two really great compilations being created. I though we could take this a step further...

I know many of you do your own compilations and may have thought of posting those. So here is a forum for your passion in music. I for one would love to see and listen to compilations you have created. We all have them in our collection whether its a driving mix, an exercise or walking set of songs on your MP3 player or a share with friends.  What would be your compilation?

So I invite you to present your own compilations for a new Post Topic titled "MY COMPILATION". This topic will be posted each Sunday from compilations submitted the previous Wednesday's deadline.

As the Butterboy Blog only posts compilations I think this be a great way to build rewarding listening experiences outside what I post daily. But obviously there needs to be some guidelines.

GUIDELINES

  • Only Various Artists compilations will be accepted.
  • Only one compilation per week from each contributor with a limit of 25 tracks per track list per submission. (Total 25 tracks only). You can submit a new track list the following week.
  • The Topic is your choice, Genre is your choice and any music is acceptable. (If readers don't like the topic or choices then they don't have to pick them up)
  •  When presenting your submission, the Topic of your compilation should be Noted as well as the sound quality of the compilation. (ie 320Kbps MP3, Flac, etc).
  • Whilst most would prefer MP3's @ 320 kbps all I request is a good sound quality.
  • A track list must be supplied together with a LINK for your Compilation.  (please do not send the compressed file)
  • Artwork is not necessary but would be welcomed.
  • All submissions need to arrive via email  to:

        BUTTER2020ap@protonmail.com

  • Entries must be recieved by  Midnight ,Wednesday. (Wherever you are in the world.)
  • Once received, your entries will be checked for content matching the track lists provided. If an entry is considered unsafe or different to the track list provided it will be deleted. If your submissions are outside the guidelines they will not be include (No questions asked and no reply)

I hope you will enjoy the opportunity and I certainly look forward to the results. I think everyone will benefit from this so join this group and enjoy the music. Lets make this fun.

Cheers

BB

  1. Hey Butterboy - if you haven't already done so, maybe you might post this on Twilight Zone blog. I think there are people there who'd be interested.

    1. Thank Jack,
I have many people from TZ who visit here, I am sure they will see my request and hopefully contribute. I feel it would be a little cheeky for me to publicize my new project there.

      Cheers.

  4. A nice challenge, Butter - and more challenging for its being limited to 25 tracks... I tend to compile in bigger heaps than that, so having to winnow it down means burning more cranial calories. Le' me think about it awhile... and thanks for inviting us in; I promise to wipe my feet first and leave my shoes at the door anyway.

    1. Hi Aging Child,
      You are always so eloquent.
Please don't take you shoes off in my house unless they are muddied. A home is to live in...

Even when I post 3 part (or more) compilations I could easily separate them and title them volume 1, then volume 2 etc, As I generally make each track list 20-25 tracks, they are designed to stand alone in most cases. I needed to keep the volume of tracks to a manageable level. I will listen to everything before I post them.

      Cheers.

    2. Right; that's what I thought - and you still may get swamped. Out of consideration for you first, and for the many other folks with their own, er, sound ideas, I'll limit my shares for now to infrequent 25-track stand-alones, likely just one every couple weeks at very most. Some themes of mine, like yours, run to 75 tracks (and upward) - but that'll be too much at this point in the fun exercise.

Here's a giveaway for every-/anybody, an idea I had a while back, and couldn't get very far with: would it be possible to fill a 25-track CD with pseudo-American recordings? I'm thinking specifically of songs sung from the U.S. perspective... by non-U.S. groups. I ran out steam just three songs in:

Paper Lace - "The Night Chicago Died", 1974
First Class - "Beach Baby", 1974
Albert Hammond - "It Never Rains in Southern California", 1972

I'm willing to bet, though, that you and/or any of a number of your far-more-music-wise readers could easily pull in twenty-two more such offerings. So you and they are welcome to run with the idea; maybe call it "No, We're NOT Yanks". (Wait, you mean those aren't Americans?")

      Cheers!

    3. @Aging Child - I'm sure the first three fits your theme. I'm just not exactly sure for the rest of the list...

"Woodstock" by Matthews' Southern Comfort (UK)
"From New York to L.A." by Patsy Gallant (Canada)
"Indiana Wants Me" by R. Dean Taylor (Canada)

      =====

"The Wall Street Shuffle" by 10cc (UK)
"Somewhere in Hollywood" by 10cc (UK)
"Nights on Broadway" by Bee Gees (Down Under)
"Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John (UK)
"Breakfast in America" by Supertramp (UK)
"Miami Vice Theme" by Jan Hammer (Czechia - Czechoslovakia)

    4. Ooh, I like, George! (And Supertramp's Breakfast in American leads off with "Gone Hollywood".) I'll leave this for anyone as their own starter set; thanks for the excellent input... this may be lower-hanging fruit than I thought. Cheers!

  6. Question - are you okay with one big file? My own comps are usually one file with each song (purposely, as opposed to randomly) flowing/blending etc, to the next track. I can still list the tracks with the approximate time intervals between each track (easier for you to check).

    1. Hi George,
      Thanks for asking.
I am OK with that. I think if you state its a single track and supply the track list it will be fine.
Some visitors will easily accept that others may not. It is their choice at the end of the day.
I look forward to you submission.

      Cheers.

  7. Hi. I look forward to participating but don't understand the "link to your compilation" part. Can someone advise me how to go about that? I typically make 80-minute mixes that fit on a CDR.

    1. Hi Dodgers68
What I am asking fort is that you supply a link that can be activated when clicked on similar to what you do when you pick up a link on my pages.
Here is what should happen - this is a link from today's Stevie Winwood post -
      https://krakenfiles.com/view/8SmnrKKKJO/file.html.

To achieve this you will need to create your file , then compress it, then convert it to get a link from a file-host ie Krakenfiles or Zippyshare or another, there are many that offer free zip creation. Once you have the link copy it and send it to me together with you track list via my email (noted above).
      I hope this is helpful.

      Cheers.

    2. Thanks, Butterboy. I figured it out. Do I check the "set as a private upload" or just leave as is? Also, how do I post my blurb (liner notes)? Do I just put the music and text files in one folder and upload the folder?

Amazing idea. I'm totally inspired and have one ready to go. I can't wait to hear what people come up with.

    3. Hi Dodger68,
Which File host are you using? If its Zippyshare check the box "set as a private upload".
Re liner notes/Track list place copy and paste onto a text document like Notepad, save it. Place just the music and text files in one folder you will compress and upload it. When you receive a link, copy it and send to by blog email. BUTTER2020ap@protonmail.com

      Cheers.

  8. You've got me inspired. At first, I was afraid I'd have to submit a ten CD set, but reading the guidelines, it's more like a ten-week set! (As if I have your level of energy!)
At any rate, working on Vol 1 now. What about an overall descriptive blurb about the comp? Allowed? Would there be a word limit? (Not looking to write a 20-page essay or anything.)

    1. Hi IceX,
I know it can be frustrating to break up a set already developed, but I need to do this as it will be way too much work for me to manage the submissions. Thanks for your understanding. I will listen to all submissions before they are posted.

Re a blurb, I didn't request it. But what I suggest is if you really want the blurb include it in your posted link. Others who pick it up will then have your information. Also next to your composition title, place the style of music in a bracket if the title does not reflect the type of music.

I really look forward to your submission IceX.

      Cheers.

    2. I don't mind submitting a comp per week, especially if this goes on for awhile. My first contribution will be next Weds coz I want to "sound check" them and I won't have time this week. I look forward to your feedback and I'm genuinely excited to hear others' comps.

    3. Hi Ice X,
      That is good to hear.
I do plan to keep this project as an ongoing segment in the blog. Of course it relies on visitors contributing their music concepts. From what I can see to-date is that there is a lot of interest and many contributors with lots of good music. I am really looking forward to this segment being a success for all. Like all new things I am sure it will evolve and eventually may include other aspects of music sharing.

      Cheers.

  9. We are obliged to take into account the length of the track for only 25 titles...
I mean include a track like "Dark Star" or "In-a-Gadda da-Vida" for
example, but on 25 titles of only 4 to 5 minutes in length, you see.
The idea of the compilation is excellent. Thanks Butterboy

    1. Hi Burmapat.
I have no issue with length of track. Just maximum 25 tracks per compilation.
I myself have a comp that has all tracks over 10 Min in length.
      Look forward to your submission.

      Cheers.

  10. Ok, that's impeccable, I'm also thinking about the length of the Jazz tracks!
    Thanks Butterboy
