VA - A Touch of Brass: 250 Brass Section Pop & Soul Classics (Super Deluxe Edition) [2022] (12 x CDs)

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6mtbyq

The latest in my 'Super Deluxe Edition' series.

A horn section is a group of musicians playing horns. In an orchestra or concert band, it refers to the musicians who play the "French" horn, and in a British-style brass band it is the tenor horn players.

In many popular music genres, the term is applied loosely to any group of woodwind or brass instruments, or a combination of woodwinds and brass. Horn sections are an integral part of musical genres such as jazz, R&B, blues, soul, funk, calypso, ska, and gospel. Most of these horn sections feature some combination of saxophones, trumpets and trombones. More rarely, other wind or brass instruments such as flute, clarinet or tuba may be added. Other popular musical genres, such as rock, pop, hip-hop, Latin, and country music also use horn sections. Horn sections in blues bands and funk groups may be composed of session musicians playing arranged parts, or they may be a consistent group of musicians. A small number of horn sections use a consistent group of musicians who become well known as a unit.

So, after exhaustive and extensive online research, plus my own recollections, favourites and memories, here is my personal compilation of what I consider to be the 250 best brass section pop and soul tracks, spread across six decades. It was a tremendous challenge as there is so much amazing material to choose from, but my overall goal was to make this collection as diverse and interesting as possible with songs compiled in a pleasing, similar sound or feel order featuring classic brass-based tracks from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s.

This fully packed 12CD set contains many rare and extremely hard to find tracks, with many featured in their original 7" 45 mono single form. Only the original studio mixes are included. No later remixes, 'stereo enhanced' or live versions here! Compiled as always using the very latest and highest quality digital remasters, with a considerable number of tracks sourced from the original master tapes for superior sound quality and enjoyment.

Get ready to blast 15.4 hours of pure unadulterated brass!

  4. Excellent collection. I was a little surprised to not hear my favorite brass-based track: "Blind Vision" by Blancmange (1983). The extended version - at nearly ten minutes long - really toots my horn!

  7. I originally discovered this compilation on the internet archive and I immediately felt guilty and stopped my urge to download because I didn't want to Pirate music but then after researched I realized that this was a compilation made by you and not an official album release. Did you approve of this being uploaded to the internet archive? Wow, this compilation must have been a ton of work. I used to make compilations back in the days with physical CDs and hand them out to people after trying to sell them failed LOL. I know all the work that's put in. I just want to say thank you so much for this effort and I truly appreciate it. I take downloads like these as an opportunity to discover artists whom I may purchase their albums in the future if I like their music.

    1. Many thanks for your kind comments Chris.
I too always see my compilations as an opportunity for others to discover new music or artists they may not have been aware of in the past encouraging them to seek out their discographies elsewhere and expand upon their musical knowledge.
I’m not sure how this particular compilation ended up on the Internet Archive, but I’m happy you discovered it and led you to BBs blog which is chock a block of excellent themed compilations such as this that you really can’t find anywhere else certainly on the breadth and scale presented here.
Yes, I do agree with you that these massive compilations take a considerable amount of time and research, often hundreds and hundreds of hours of editing for each one, but it makes it all worthwhile when someone like yourself comes along full of praise and understanding of just what it takes to pull one of these together.
I hope you enjoy this collection and find many hidden gems you may have missed over the years.
      Best,
      K
