VA - Right On! Break Beats & Grooves from the Atlantic & Warner Vault [2001] (6 x CDs)

Just because the songs comprising the first volume of the Right On! series appeared on major labels Warner Bros. and Atlantic, doesn't mean you should expect the expected. Few of these recordings, all of which were subsequently sampled for latter-day hip-hop and dance tracks, have been the subject of contemporary reissues before now, and while their drum tracks, basslines, and the occasional horn break may be familiar, chances are you're hearing the originals for the first time. The fun of sets like this one is discovering a given beat, break, or sample, and experiencing that moment of recognition when music's past and present merge -- likewise, it's equally entertaining to imagine the creative process that results in artists as unlikely as Cher ("For What It's Worth"), Lulu ("Feelin' Alright"), and the Electric Prunes ("General Confessional") reborn as gristle for the sampling mill. Other highlights include Jack McDuff's "Shadow of Your Smile," Black Heat's "Zimba Ku," and Billy Cobham's "Crosswind." (AllMusic Review by Jason Ankeny)

  1. Q: Where did the 6CD Set come from?
All I have ever seen is 4CD (Incl the Bonus) or single CD as well as single CD Promos!

    Cheers

    1. Hi Stephen,
The notes I have suggest that the 6xCD version of Right On! - Break Beats And Grooves From The Atlantic & Warner Vaults is a Japanese release that includes a bonus CD with 6 additional tracks. It seems like a rare and valuable collection for music lovers.
      Cheers.

    2. Ecxcellent......Like I said though...This one has CD4 +CD5 as the Bonus CD's as I have only seen the 4CD which = 3CD + The "Bonus" CD as CD4!

    3. Hi Stephen,
Possibly just a special edition picking up all five Cd's + the added bonuses.
      Cheers.

    4. My understanding is that volumes 1 through 5 were released separately. A boxed set was also released which included volumes 1 through 3 with the "bonus disc" being included as CD4. The bonus disc was only included in the boxed set and volumes 4 and 5 were only released separately. Here's a link that provides supporting information. https://www.discogs.com/label/420913-Right-On!-4

    1. Hi D,
Thanks. I believe it is a location issue for those who have problems but using a VPN is useful and having an alternative browser seem to work. Pixeldrain seems pretty good to me as well.
      Cheers.
