AUSTRALIAN PSYCHEDELIC ROCK
VA - Psychedelic Aussie (A Butterboy Compilation) (4 x CDs)
Psychedelic music is more than just a relic of the Sixties. It is a vibrant and diverse genre that has evolved and expanded over the decades, influenced by various musical and cultural movements. Psychedelic music is a fascinating genre that has a long and rich history in Australia. It emerged in the late 1960s, when Australia was undergoing social and cultural changes that influenced the musical tastes and expressions of many Australian musicians. They were also inspired by the psychedelic innovations from Britain and America. One of the most influential albums of the psychedelic era was The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which was released in 1967. The album was a groundbreaking work of art that experimented with different musical styles, instruments, techniques, and concepts. It also featured a colourful and iconic cover art that reflected the psychedelic aesthetic. The album had a huge impact on Australian musicians, who were eager to explore new musical possibilities and create their own psychedelic sound.
Australian psychedelic music, also known as ozpsych or Aussie psych, was born out of the social and cultural context of Australia in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Australia, which has produced many original and influential bands and artists since the late 1960s. The late 1960s and early 1970s saw the emergence of many Australian psychedelic bands and artists who experimented with different genres, such as rock, pop, folk, blues, jazz, and electronic music. They also used various effects, such as distortion, feedback, reverb, delay, phasing, flanging, and wah-wah pedals. They also explored different themes, such as love, peace, freedom, spirituality, nature, drugs, and politics.
Australian psychedelic music continued to evolve and diversify over the decades, incorporating new influences and technologies. In the 1980s and 1990s, Australian psychedelic bands used synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, and digital effects to create new sounds and styles. In the 2000s and 2010s, Australian psychedelic music experienced a revival and gained international recognition and popularity which is strong and still growing in appreciation.
This compilation is a tribute to the history and evolution of psychedelic music in Australia. It showcases some of the songs that exemplify the Australian psychedelic sound and style from the last six decades. The tracks are presented chronologically by decade. I hope you will enjoy this set. (B)
