MOVEMENTS
VA - Movements Vol. 01 - Vol. 10 (10 x CD's)
Movements includes an exciting range of Rare Grooves from the 1960s and '70s. The 'Movements' saga started in 2005 by music maven Tobias Kirmayer in association with a fellow German label, 'Perfect Toy'. His goal was - and still is - to discover, study, and properly represent great black american music that is at risk of being lost or forgotten. Today, his illustrious label Tramp Records, has proudly released 10 volumes of this essential series. Though the track listings still contains amazing music you may never hear elsewhere, the series has matured since its first volume. The track selection has become more open minded, compiling ballads and soul-jazz tunes, even proto-disco in addition to the rare funk Tramp fans expect. Tracks are selected in chronological order so that the listener may get an impression of the development of of the art form from jazz to rhythm and blues to rock & roll to soul and of course, funk.
As the website states: "we ain't going for bootlegs," so, whenever possible, Tramp sought out and was granted permission to release each track from the original musicians who are very often in their late seventies now. He took that opportunity to interview them about their careers, their groups, and the recording sessions from which these gems arose. The artists' stories are meticulously published in extensive liner notes which are printed in the included full-color booklet. Their own words illuminate the colorful backstory behind each track. Participate in the preservation and celebration of the history of great Black American music.
One of the best Reissue labels on funk at the moment. While others keep hunting down tons of already heard funk classics, Mr Kimayer has released the ultimate killer funk rarities never heard of non-stop since the first 45, and he shows no signs of letting the glow fade. He has close contact with The Poets Of Rhythm and he puts unreleased and never-heard-before material on wax. Not only the Poets own music but he manage to find and dust of old forgotten master-tapes from the 70's. Don't ask me how he does it or how he found them, but he knows what we want and delivers them profoundly on high quality pressings. Releasing Bahama Soul Stew was just the most magnificent he has done. Highly recommended. (Discogs)
Lovers of funk and soul music will certainly enjoy this selection despite the fact that have probably never heard of most the featured artists. Fans of James Brown should have this album in their collection.

An excellent series. Many thanks for posting, BB.
ReplyDeleteHi Arty,
DeleteI couldn't agree more.
Cheers.
So, so good, Butterboy! These comps are fantastic. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Ace F'really,
DeleteThanks for that. They are wonderful and everyone should hear them.
Cheers.
Thank you is simply not enough - these will take some time to digest I'm sure :)
ReplyDeleteOn another note, caught a song at the end of a TV series and the lyrics were really good, made me think of various singers who would sing such a song and the writer and singer turned out to be "Mickey Newbury", who I've never heard of of course, so played a few youtube's of his and got searching. I'm not saying his singing bowls me over, but his words certainly go to the core. Thought I'd mention it as I think you only have him on a multi-artist compilation.
Thx BB
Hi puw,
DeleteThis is a great set, listening to it again today. Very enjoyable.
Re Mickey Newbury, I have a bunch of his albums and a great box. I will post the box in the near future.
Cheers.
Was only a mention, passing on a find as others like me may not be aware of him etc. I've just got the 8 CD x 10 Album set in FLAC (dloading now) :) Going to have a listen. My initial understanding is that he is responsible (without acknowledgment) for an awful lot of things, not just C&W genre-wise.
DeleteUpdate - managed to get the 1st 4 tagged up and onto my old ipod. These really are excellent. With a good pair of earphones, the quality shines through on getting these onto a CD.
DeleteHi puw,
DeleteGreat to hear from you and see you are enjoying music. I was getting worried about you. Hope all is well
Cheers.
Yes BB, thanks, all's as well as it can be, busy with continual development of this years 'means to an end' which I'd hoped by now would have been much busier (not a contradiction lol).
DeleteYes, crazy times indeed. Stay safe
DeleteCheers
Great col. of gems. Thank SO much!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome muddyw123,
DeleteEnjoy the music.
Cheers.
Wow!!!, Thanks so much for this
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome D'artagnan,

Sadly, just heard that Tim Smith of Cardiacs has passed. Huge cult band. RIP.
ReplyDeleteRIP Tim Smith. So young only 59.
Deletethanks BB
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Jack.
DeleteCheers.
Thank you. This is a wonderful treasure trove!
ReplyDeleteHi cgm,
DeleteThat is a great description, a treasure trove. Enjoy.
Cheers.
please re-up this!
ReplyDeleteHi 367 loser,
DeleteSorry for that but the links have been takedown.
Please use the Pixeldrain option. It is working.
Cheers.
thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am running out of synonyms for "thank you" which, in any case, would be insufficient here. This is just tremendous, Butterboy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the many things you share with us; would it be possible for you to re-up? The pixeldrain isn't working.
ReplyDeleteHi Paghxt,
DeleteNew links established, tested and working.
Also reposted.
Cheers.
Hello, does anybody have Volume 11 of this fantastic series they could post please?
ReplyDeleteHi dazzzt,
DeleteSorry I don't have it. I saw it on bandcamp . Really good release.

Hopefully someone can share it.
Cheers.
