- The artists must be a songwriter having written the chosen track.
- The track chosen must be written by an artist as a sole writer, either for self or another person's i.e., cannot be co-written.
- Tracks should be the artists first written song, either on an album or on a single, assuming a single precedes an album.
Here are 4 volumes of these artist who we may not know if we met and shared or first names. CD4 is only by a mononym's artist. Enjoy.

Whew! Butter, I think you've put more skull sweat into this compilation than any other you've graciously shared! I like the great range of artists and eras, and am practically hopping up and down in my seat as I recognize quite a few artists, but often not the song itself - a real ear opener! In fact, this one will have us listening as much with our heads as with those ears themselves. What a treat for both!
ReplyDeleteHi Aging Child,
DeleteThank you. A man of great taste such as yourself will enjoy the finds on this compilation. I don't mind saying this was a very long (but enjoyable)process to get to where I arrived with this one. I was rattled by my own rules. I think I've captured most tracks correctly but there may a few who have a better knowledge and will probably find the odd error. That is OK. I hope I have made an enjoyable listing for those interested. You comments have accurately captured what I have tried to do with this compilation. There are many artist here that wrote many songs before the chosen track that appears here but always as a co-writer, so to identifying the first song the artist wrote was a wonderful challenge. Happy days.
Cheers.
That's the mark of the true artist -- whether with palette, guitar, or laser-read disk: putting one's very self and focus into the output, rather than simply grabbing random items (e.g., musical notes, tubes of oil paint, recordings), and tossing them into the stew any old way. I'd hang a Vermeeer in my living room long before I'd put up a Pollock... no offense intended, Jackson. Likewise, a ButterBoy compilation belongs in reach of every CD player. Bonus: you're clearly having fun doing this: another mark of an artist. Lead on, sir!
DeleteVery interesting collection, many thanks for putting it together.
ReplyDeleteHi Bob Mac,
DeleteThanks for that. I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers.
This is amazing, how did you ever come up with such an idea? I agree with Aging Child you have excelled here.
ReplyDeletePS cd1 #27 I'm sure you meant to type "Chester Arthur Burnett".
Thanks lemonflag.
DeleteMuch appreciated.
I was reading an article where the name William George Perks Jr. appeared and identified the said gentleman as a Rolling Stone. Very interesting I thought and after a bit of research found many artists that I did not know their real names. That why he occupies the first position of this Compilation.
That could have been enough of an idea but I followed the path I did wondering if those artists with different birth names actually wrote songs. I am glad I did. These set are are interesting enough musically but also provides a great document for those interested.
I know there are other artist that have different stage names than their birth name but they didn't write songs that I am aware of.
H.W.? It certainly should. Fixed and amended. I've looked at these so many times and even dreamed about the tracks.
Cheers.
What a concept! De-Constructivism of highest standards and: where you'd never expect it first place ... I guess, I'll listen to many of these tracks so much differently than before - and that's what makes this collection even more special. Thanks & stay healthy, Butterboy!
ReplyDeleteHi The Chairman.
DeleteYes, It was a devastatingly wonderful experience piecing this together.
I hope you will enjoy the unexpected.
Health and safety to you also.
Cheers.
Hi BB, Wow, echoing the previous folks!!!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to the listen.
Thanks = Cheers!!
Thanks Coffee Messiah.
DeleteCheers.
Wonderful idea! interesting information about the artist appearing here, amazing cover in diferent colors, really beautiful! and of course great music!
ReplyDeleteButterboy, always innovating!
Cheers
Thanks Il Commendatore.
DeleteAppreciated. Something different is always refreshing.
Cheers.
Elvis Costello's first single was "Less Than Zero", not "Watching The Detectives".
ReplyDeleteHi Naz Fride,
DeleteI think we may both wrong as referenced by Discogs.
His first single listed was Mystery Dance / Pay It Back 1977 followed by
Watching The Detectives
then
Alison
then
Less Than Zero
then
Red Shoes
But I concede that you may be correct as "Less Than Zero", was released on March 25, 1977 and Watching the detectives was released in Nov 1977 ?
Thanks for getting me to look again.
Cheers
Hi BB - file does not exist. Thanks in advance.
ReplyDeleteHi Ronzoni,
DeleteNew link established Tested and working. Also added repost to new page post
Cheers.
