VA - Music from the South, Vol. 01 - 10 [2004] (10 x CD's)

SMITHSONIAN FOLKWAYS

VA - Music from the South, Vol.  01 - 10 [2004]  (10 x CD's)

This is a remarkable journey.  The fieldwork for this album sought to explore sources that would lead listeners back to the decades between the emancipation of the slaves in 1863 and 1900. Field recordings taken in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. The collector, Frederick Ramsey, Jr., endeavored to find old artists who had not yet been recorded, and with the single exception of Elder David Ross of New Orleans, he succeeded.. All attached Liner Notes are from The Smithsonian website (https://folkways.si.edu/).     Full liner notes are provided with each file.

  3. I really like primitive and field-recordings; thank you for another great surprise, Butter! When I mentioned to a friend that The Novel in the works pivots in part on time travel *and* music, he asked to come along - with a digital recorder, and a verrryy long extension cord. I have a feeling that this collection might just furnish some of the soundtrack. (Folkways has some of the best.)

I am never disappointed by a Folkway release. Just wonderful. You do have to put your mind into it as is can be so different to other material we often listen to.
Enjoy listening this and get inspiration from it.
