SOMETHING WEIRD

VA - Something Weird Greatest Hits! [2018] (2 x CD's)

Something Weird Video was founded in 1990 by Mike Vraney in Seattle, Washington. He was inspired by his teenage job as a theater projectionist. His love for the obscure films that never made it to video prompted him to transfer hundreds of ancient reels of film to VHS and DVD. The company specializes in exploitation, sexploitation films of the 30's through the 70's. Iconic purveyors of the lost and the strange, Something Weird Video, have partnered with Modern Harmonic to bring you 2LPs of the greatest songs and soundbites from their voluminous catalog of filth and general grindhouse fodder. Truly Something Weird indeed.  If you like garage rock, this is for you. Songs have intro dialogue from Something Weird movies (Amazon)

  3. Thanks so much for this, Butterboy!

Something Weird was one of the greatest specialty movie labels ever. Mike Vraney celebrated the forgotten and the deliberately discarded of American culture. From out-and-out porn to sexploitation to teensploitation to rock'n'roll movies to just plain trash, he understood that American culture was more than Andy Hardy and Hollywood spectaculars, that it encompassed our desires as well as our dreams.

He unearthed it all and presented it with love and without a sneer. Without him and Something Weird, our knowledge and understanding of our past would be thinner, more one-dimensional and less true.
