Bob Weir - Box Of Bob (8x CD's)

BOB WEIR

Bob Weir - Box Of Bob (8x CD's)

Bob Weir - Robert Hall Weir, born October 16, 1947, is an American musician and songwriter best known as a founding member of the rock band Grateful Dead. After the Grateful Dead disbanded in 1995, Weir performed with The Other Ones, later known as The Dead, together with other former members of the Grateful Dead. Weir also founded and played in several other bands during and after his career with the Grateful Dead, including Kingfish, the Bob Weir Band, Bobby and the Midnites, Scaring the Children, RatDog, and Furthur, which he co-led with former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh. In 2015, Weir, along with former Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann, joined with Grammy-winning singer/guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti to form the band Dead & Company. The band remains active.

During his career with the Grateful Dead, Weir played mostly rhythm guitar and sang many of the band's rock-n-roll and country & western songs. In 1994, he was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Grateful Dead.

Weir was born in San Francisco, California, to John (Jack) Parber and a fellow college student, who later gave him up for adoption; he was raised by his adoptive parents, Frederic Utter and Eleanor Cramer Weir, in the suburb of Atherton. He began playing guitar at age thirteen after less successful experimentation with the piano and the trumpet. He had trouble in school because of undiagnosed dyslexia and he was expelled from nearly every school he attended, including Menlo School in Atherton and Fountain Valley School in Colorado, where he met future Grateful Dead lyricist John Perry Barlow.  On New Year's Eve 1963, 16-year-old Weir and an underage friend were wandering the back alleys of Palo Alto, looking for a club that would admit them, when they heard banjo music. They followed the music to its source, Dana Morgan's Music Store. Here, a young Jerry Garcia, oblivious to the date, was waiting for his students to arrive. Weir and Garcia spent the night playing music together and then decided to form a band. The Beatles significantly influenced their musical direction. "The Beatles were why we turned from a jug band into a rock 'n' roll band," said Bob Weir. "What we saw them doing was impossibly attractive. I couldn't think of anything else more worth doing." Originally called Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, the band was later renamed The Warlocks and eventually the Grateful Dead.

  1. Wonderful! I love the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir more rock than Jerry Garcia? And Garcia more Jazz for his spatial improvisations...I saw the band in 1974 in Paris, more than 3 hours on stage, the alchemy was incredible, and I'm not talking about the rhythm, with these guys, as with the jazzmen, they never lost the first sense of the melody in their songs, it's always present. For me, one of the most important bands.
Both Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia, besides being great musicians, are great singers! Thanks for sharing Butterboy.

  2. Thanks for the Weir's, especially the record of Ratdog. Could you re-upload "The complete Dial sessions by Charlie Parker?"
I've been searching and I think I've lost my cd's.
    Thanks in advance. Good job

  4. Thanks so much for this, I didn't even know such a collection existed!

I was a Deadhead for many years, even scheduled vacations around their tours sometimes. Those concerts remain some of my fondest memories, both for the music and the unique atmosphere of being surrounded by friends you'd never met. Thanks again!

    1. Hi Gummo,
You are correct Gummo, this is not an official box set. I pulled these together because they represent Bob Weir well.
There are other albums that could make the super deluxe set but I felt this was enough for the first round.

I am happy you will enjoy these.

      Cheers.

  5. Ah, I should have known - such a great collection could only be a Butterboy original. Kudos!
