DEFINITIVE BLUES

VA - Definitive Chicago Blues + Definitive Delta Blues + Definitive Detroit Blues [2012] (9 x CD's)

VA - Definitive Chicago Blues [2012]    The Chicago blues is a form of blues music that developed in Chicago, Illinois, by taking the basic acoustic guitar and harmonica-based Delta blues, making the harmonica louder with a microphone and an instrument amplifier, and adding electrically amplified guitar, amplified bass guitar, drums, piano and sometimes saxophone and trumpet. The music developed in the first half of the twentieth century as a result of the Great Migration, when Black workers moved from the South into the industrial cities of the North such as Chicago.  Chicago blues was originally street corner-based music. But after the music quickly gained popularity, it became a giant commercial enterprise. Soon the new style of music reached out and touched Europe, which led many famous English rock n' roll bands to get their inspiration from the Chicago blues, returning to American audiences as a pivotal influence in the development of rock music.  This  3 CD set of 75 tracks including a broad sampling of the genre, including well known musicians such as Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Elmore James, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Freddy King, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter and several others. (Amazon)

VA - Definitive Delta Blues [2012]     Delta blues is one of the earliest-known styles of blues. It originated in the Mississippi Delta, and is regarded as a regional variant of country blues. Guitar and harmonica are its dominant instruments; slide guitar is a hallmark of the style. Vocal styles in Delta blues range from introspective and soulful to passionate and fiery. Excellent collection. If you like Mississippi delta blues, you need this one (Amazon)

VA - Definitive Detroit Blues [2012]     Blues fans will love the rich vein of historical recordings that we have assembled here, and will be able to choose which artists to seek out for further material. For some, like One String Sam, the search will be quick as he only originally recorded two tracks, or Baby Boy Warren who only cut ten back then, whilst others have extensive catalogues to explore. Most here faded into obscurity, which for serious blues fans will only make them more attractive, but taken as a whole this wonderful collection serves as a real testament to the raw and pioneering spirit of these blues men.
