Stomu Yamashta (or Yamash'ta), born Tsutomu Yamashita (15 March 1947), is a Japanese percussionist, keyboardist and composer. He is best known for pioneering and popularising a fusion of traditional Japanese percussive music with Western progressive rock music in the 1960s and 1970s.  In the latter part of the 1970s, he led the supergroup Go with Steve Winwood, Al Di Meola, Klaus Schulze, and Michael Shrieve.

The first ever boxed set celebrating the work of Stomu Yamashta for Island Records between 1972 and 1976. Remastered set including the albums Floating Music, The Man From The East, Freedom Is Frightening, One By One, Raindog, Go, and 'Go... Live From Paris. Features musical assistance from Steve Winwood, Klaus Schulze, Michael Shrieve, Al Di Meola, Hugh Hopper, Gary Boyle, Morris Pert, and others. Born in Kyoto, Japan, Yamashta studied music at Kyoto University and Berklee College of Music. His athletic and virtuoso percussion style came to prominence in the early 1970s when his work with the Red Buddha Theatre brought him to Europe.

UK based Esoteric Records comes out again with reissues of out-of-print progressive classic rock recordings from the 70s. Stomu Yamashta is not your typical household name, but his compositional skills were further augmented by big names of prog rock who appeared in this box set of 7 albums-Hugh Hopper, Gary Boyle, Pat Thrall, Michael Shrieve, Morris Pert, Al di Meola, Klaus Schulze, Steve Winwood et al. The clam box shell contains all his 70s recordings with Island Records in cardboard vinyl replica sleeve some are fold out, with a 30-page booklet of details, photos, artwork. The music is hard to classify it is blend of jazz, progressive rock, electronic, classical, symphonic, avant-garde, ambient and some tracks are epic long typical of progressive rock permeating at that time.
