VA - Bagpipes For Monty (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2

VA - Bagpipes For Monty (A Butterboy Compilation) CD1+CD2

The bagpipe is a musical instrument using enclosed reeds fed from a constant reservoir of air in the form of a bag. Though the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe and Irish uilleann pipes have the greatest international visibility, bagpipes have been for centuries played throughout large parts of Europe, the Caucasus, around the Persian Gulf and in Northern Africa. In recent years, often driven by revivals of native folk music and dance, many types of bagpipes have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity and, in many cases, instruments that were on the brink of obscurity have become extremely popular. This list details the use of bagpipes in a variety of works, from classical to jazz and rock. (Wikipedia)

What you will find here are tracks that represent Bagpipes used in rock music. Songs that feature 100 percent real bagpipes. Tracks with instruments that sound like bagpipes (Steve Earle's - Coperhead Road and Big Country’s - In a Big Country etc.) were not Included in this compilation. Traditional Highland Bagpipes tunes we also not included.

I hope you will enjoy the bleat.

  1. Looks not working for me!

    1. Hi Stephen,
I just tested the links. Its working fine for me.
I assume you are pressing the Smallest album cover in the link section and it is taking you to the KrakenFiles site. Can only suggest you try again.

  2. Thanks for prompt reply.

All others are working ... not this one!

  3. At the KrakenFiles site it just keeps trying to load and then times out:
    Error 524 Ray ID: 648f72381a5efd4e • 2021-05-02 07:13:18 UTC

  4. Bagpipes? Bagpipes! Absurd and wonderful idea.

    1. Thanks Simon,
The credit goes to my friend Monty who has been asking for this for some time now. I finally relented.
      Absurd, yes. Enjoyable, more yes...

  5. Replies
    1. Have fun with these, Aussie.
      You are always welcome.

  6. ****Any chance of re-up the Elvis Costello?

    1. Hi Stephen, are you referring to the Butterboy compilation.

    2. Hi Stephen,
I have updated the EC sets on the main pages PArt 1 & 2.
      Links tested and working.
      Enjoy them.

    3. Thank you so much.

I have been a big EC listener since he began.....thats how old I am.
Saw him many times and my music collection (Vinyl CD and the digital) has most of his output.
Im still a big fan of what he gets up to.
This will be a great listen Im sure.

      Thanks once again.

  7. The Scot in my DNA is atwitter in anticipation. Thanks!

    1. Hi Unknown,
Lots of interesting tracks in this lot.

  8. We've said it a thousand times!
    Butterboy knows music!
I saw this request...I thought "Oh, yeah! Bagpipes are righteously formidable".
Then I remembered, Mull Of Kintyre...and, that was the extent of my knowledge to do with the instrument.
    Beautiful job, Sire!
To the high country, we go!

    1. Hi Kwai Chang,
      Hope you are well.
Thanks for you words of encouragement. Bagpipes was one I avoided for a while even after a number of requests. But at the end of the day a pretty interesting compilation appeared.

  9. I've got another addition to your bagpipe compilation: "Run Runaway" by Slade.

    1. Great choice Matt.
It easily fits into the bagpipes collection.
      I love learning...

  10. Hi BB. It appears that the links are down.

    1. Hi Bonita,
The Icon link is working. Please try again.

  11. Thanks BB, It's working. I've been spending this Saturday night sipping red wine while listening to a number of your awesome compilations.

    1. Thanks Bonita,
      Glad its now working.
It is now Sunday here and I had a few reds last night... very enjoyable.
